About Dr. Steven J. Waldo

Dr. Steven Waldo grew up in Island Lake, Illinois, and attended Wauconda High School. His interest in sports, movement, and performance led him to Trinity International University, where he played baseball and developed an early interest in athletic performance and injury prevention.

During college, Dr. Waldo interned at the Berto Center, the former training facility of the Chicago Bulls. There, he gained firsthand exposure to how professional athletes approach sports medicine, rehabilitation, performance, and recovery.

In 2005, Dr. Waldo and his wife, Katie, moved to Elgin and established Health in Balance Chiropractic Center. Fully Credentialed in the McKenzie Method

An Evidence-Based Approach to Musculoskeletal Care

Dr. Waldo is fully credentialed in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), an evidence-based system used to assess and manage musculoskeletal conditions involving the spine and extremities.

Rather than focusing only on where a patient feels pain, the McKenzie Method evaluates how symptoms respond to specific movements and positions. This information can help identify patterns, guide treatment, and give patients strategies they can use outside the chiropractic office.

Dr. Waldo combines his McKenzie training with chiropractic care, movement assessment, rehabilitation, and other treatment options based on each patient’s condition and goals.

Our Philosophy

Honest Care. No Pressure. Personalized Treatment.

At Health in Balance Chiropractic, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all treatment plans.

Dr. Waldo begins by listening to your concerns, evaluating your movement and symptoms, and understanding what you want to get back to doing. From there, he develops a personalized treatment plan based on your condition and goals.

Our approach is built around three principles: effective care, clear communication, and honest recommendations.

You’ll understand what we’re treating, why we’re treating it, and what you can do between visits to support your recovery.

No pressure. No unnecessary treatments. Just a clear plan designed around you.

Dr.-Waldo-with-Patient

Dr. Waldo’s Approach to Chiropractic Care

Treatment may combine multiple evidence-based approaches depending on your symptoms, condition, and recovery goals.

      • Chiropractic Adjustments: Targeted chiropractic care designed to improve joint movement, function, and mobility.
      • McKenzie Therapy: Movement-based assessment and treatment used to identify symptom patterns and guide musculoskeletal care.
      • Soft Tissue Therapy: Hands-on treatment addressing muscles and connective tissues that may contribute to pain or restricted movement.
      • Guided Exercise & Rehabilitation: Targeted exercises designed to improve strength, stability, mobility, and function while supporting long-term recovery.
      • At-Home Strategies: Clear exercises and movement recommendations give you an active role in your recovery and help extend the benefits of in-office treatment.

The goal is simple: get you better, keep you better, and prevent future problems.

How Often Will I Need Chiropractic Care?

Frequency & Prevention

There’s no universal schedule for chiropractic treatment.

How frequently you should see a chiropractor depends on your condition, symptoms, activity level, treatment goals, and how you respond to care.

Patients experiencing acute pain or recovering from an injury may initially benefit from more frequent treatment, while other patients may require fewer visits.

Dr. Waldo will recommend a treatment frequency based on your individual needs and adjust the plan as you progress.

The goal isn’t to keep you coming back unnecessarily. It’s to help you improve, give you tools to manage your condition, and support long-term movement and function.
