About Dr. Steven J. Waldo & Health in Balance

Dr. Steven J. Waldo grew up in Island Lake, Illinois, and attended Wauconda High School. His passion for sports and movement led him to Trinity International University, where he played baseball and developed a deep appreciation for athletic performance and injury prevention.

During his college years, Dr. Waldo interned at the Berto Center, home of the Chicago Bulls, where he witnessed firsthand how professional teams approach sports medicine and recovery. This experience shaped his philosophy: the best outcomes come from combining evidence-based treatment with personalized attention.

In 2005, Dr. Waldo moved to Elgin with his wife Katie and established Health in Balance Chiropractic Center. Today, he continues to serve the Elgin and Fox Valley community, enjoying golf in his spare time and watching his three daughters grow. His commitment to the community is reflected in his professional roles and his belief that honest care and real results matter more than pressure-based sales.

Our Philosophy

Honest Care. No Pressure. Real Results.

We don’t treat symptoms. We treat people. At Health in Balance, we believe that every patient is unique, with unique goals and unique challenges. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, we listen carefully, conduct thorough evaluations, and develop personalized treatment plans designed specifically for you.

Our commitment is simple: efficiency, affordability, and honesty. We identify the root cause of your problem, show you exactly what we’re doing and why, and give you a clear roadmap to achieving your goals. No pressure tactics. No unnecessary treatments. Just real results.

Our Approach to Care

We combine multiple evidence-based modalities into a coordinated, goal-focused approach:

  • Chiropractic Adjustments: Restoring spinal motion and function

  • McKenzie Therapy: Movement-based approach to identify and correct the root cause

  • Soft Tissue Therapy: Addressing muscle and connective tissue restrictions

  • Guided Exercise & Rehabilitation: Building strength and stability

  • Clear Game Plan: In-office care, at-home exercises, and prevention strategies

The goal is simple: get you better, keep you better, and prevent future problems.

We make it easy to get started:

Smart Approach to Care

Frequency & Prevention

A common question: ‘How often should I come in?‘ The answer depends on your specific goals and condition.

Here’s what we know from science and experience:

  • Joints stiffen without regular movement. A sedentary lifestyle accelerates degeneration.
  • Daily habits compound over time. Poor posture, repetitive motions, and stress create problems that worsen progressively.
  • The right combination of in-office treatment and at-home exercises prevents future issues and extends your results.
  • Your care frequency will be tailored to your goals: acute pain relief may require more frequent visits initially

We’ll discuss frequency and progression at your first visit.
